National Nurses Week

May 9, 2020 | News, NitFlix

National Nurses Week is underway. So, each year this begins on May 6th and ends on May 12th. At the same time, this year; the entire month is dedicated to celebrating nurses and midwives.

Grace’s Nursing Career

In the 6th grade, I had to do an Occupational report. After doing the research, I realized being a nurse was the right career path for me. Since that time, I have never looked back.

When I was in high school, I was grateful that I already knew the direction I was heading in; while others were still trying to figure this out.

From the age of 14, I became a Candy Striper. Surprisingly, I think I still have the uniform tucked away. I volunteered every Sunday for 8 hours a week up through high school and was happy about my choice.

After graduating high school, I attended Molly College which I was at the top of my class in the nursing program.

For 6 years, I worked as a nurse in critical care. To me, it was extremely rewarding to be there for both the patient and their families.

In addition to working at the hospital as a Critical Care Nurse, I did private duty nursing. I often went job to job and never cared about the long hours as I wanted to do the right thing for my patients – this is the heart of a true nurse.

While working as a Nurse, I had a patient in the Heart Surgical Unit who asked me, If I was a Sargent in the Navy”; when I was checking in with him to make sure he was doing his deep breathing and coughing after having open-heart surgery. Of course, I laughed about this and he joined me when I said there is no way you’re getting pneumonia on my watch!

National Nurses Week

With the worldwide pandemic, I have realized hospitals and the medical community wouldn’t exist without nurses.

In essence, this year’s theme is Compassion, Expertise, and Trust. So, it goes without saying these are the traits most important for any nurse.

Although I chose to go back to school to pursue another career in the medical field (perfusion); this never would have occurred if it wasn’t for being a nurse first.

Meanwhile, I have always maintained my RN license; once a nurse always a nurse.

In fact, my medical experience assisted me in working with a well-known chemist to create NitFlix. Be sure to visit my Grace’s NitFlix Story April 2019 post to read my story on creating this product that not only eliminates lice practically overnight but also doesn’t have harmful chemicals.

Happy National Nurses Week!
