Healthy Kids Day is a national event for the YMCA. So, this means every local “Y” has this event. First and foremost, their national initiative is to improve the health and well-being of kids. Since many families are getting ready for Summer camp – this event also offers discounts, prizes, demos and lots of fun.

Healthy Kids Day also promotes the participation of local businesses. By participating in this event as a vendor creates true community involvement as well as informs people of what their local businesses offer.

A fact you may not know is the YMCA is the nation’s largest provider of preschool services. If you feel like the YMCA has been around forever, you’re not far off!  They have a 100 year focus on promoting healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. The “Y” as they are frequently called, offers daycare, after school programs, and a wide variety summer camps.

Locally the YMCA of the Treasure Coast came into existence in 2000. This was a merger of Martin and St. Lucy Counties.  This merger enabled the expansion of Okeechobee and Indian River Counties which led to the current name – YMCA of the Treasure Coast.

When I was growing up, my Dad was a member of the YMCA for years.This was my first introduction to the “Y”. When my daughter was old enough; the local “Y” is where I turned to, for her swimming lessons and summer camps in California.

The YMCA understands family life. They provide the flexibility needed by families. Specifically, my husband paid for an after school program our daughter wanted to attend, yet she later changed her mind. Consequently, they kept the money as a credit for us to use a later date. Of course, this came in handy when I found out a friend was teaching a class there. This kind of customer service is hard to find these days, and it’s this common sense kindness, that has them stand out in our minds.
